Automotive Electrical System Repair in Buford and Cumming, GA
How The Electrical & Electronic System Works
The electrical system consists of exactly what it sounds like. It consists of the battery, starter, and alternator. It can be compared to your body’s circulatory system. Your heart (the battery) pumps blood (electricity) to your blood vessels (the wires) before returning back to the heart to start the process all over again.
In this system, the battery is an integral part. The battery stores electricity generated from the alternator and distributes it around the car. If there is an issue with your battery, or any other part of the electrical system, it could cause an issue with your car’s electricity.

How To Know If Your Electrical & Electronic System Needs Maintenance
There are signs that tell you if your electrical system has a problem. Some of them are rather obvious, but there are some that need to be actively looked for.
- Dim headlights/tail lights: If your lights are dimmer than usual, that can indicate an electrical problem. Typically, this shows that the alternator is failing.
- Engine won’t turn over: Your engine needs electricity through the spark plugs to turn on. If your engine is having trouble doing so, it could very well be an electrical problem.
- Smell of melting plastic: This one is a big sign to look out for. If you smell melting plastic as you drive, do not ignore it. It could indicate that wiring that is so hot, it is melting the insulation. This could potentially lead to a car fire.
- Sputtering engine: If spark plugs are not getting a strong flow of electricity, the fuel will not combust completely in the cylinders. This could cause your engine to run roughly.
- Lights/windows/radio doesn’t work: This could indicate a blown fuse, or if there are multiple systems failing, it could also indicate a failing alternator.
